Young Artist SCS Composer in Residence
ONG Lin Wei (b. 2001) is a Singaporean composer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, and recipient of the National Arts Council (NAC) Postgraduate Scholarship. His work spans contemporary classical, ethnic, and cross-cultural traditions. He began violin studies at the age of four under Mr. Koh Kah Eng and Cultural Medallion recipient Ms. Lynnette Seah, later studying piano with Dr. John Sharpley. Following national service, he pursued composition studies at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) under Dr. Zechariah Goh, alongside additional training in oboe and conducting.
An active performer, arranger, and collaborator, Lin Wei has worked with ensembles and organisations including the Asian Cultural Symphony Orchestra, Orkestra Sri Temasek, Orkestra Melayu Singapura, Brisbane Chamber Choir, and Artusik, where he currently performs as an erhu player. He has also served as Composer-in-Residence with Schola Cantorum Singapore and the Kodály Academy of Music. His work extends to multicultural and state-related performances, including arrangements for a March 2026 event held at the Istana. In addition, he has been involved in artistic planning and composition work for violinist Ms. Lynnette Seah’s upcoming recital in August 2026, contributing a new work titled With Love.
His orchestral works Romance in B minor and Battle of Bukit Chandu were premiered at Victoria Concert Hall, while Rhythm of Unity was premiered by The Straits Ensemble. He was awarded First Prize at the Classical Stars International Competition.
Lin Wei was commissioned by Ms. Lynnette Seah to compose Joget Seri Malam, and his Suite 1965 was premiered at the reopening of a major Singapore arts venue. Beyond composition, he served as music editor for the feature film A Good Fortune and as Guest Liaison for the Singapore International Soundcheck Festival.
He is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Noctavé Composers Festival, an international contemporary chamber music initiative based in Singapore.
